At Bechange we are looking for people who would like to join the Bechange Shed Project . The word SHED for most people conjures up the image of a wooden building in the garden for keeping your gardening equipment in, but not here at Bechange. We have a large space with a hall, kitchen and community garden which can be utilised by local people who want to become involved in the project.
What is a Shed Project?
Shed Projects are a growing movement nationally, originating from 1996 onwards in Australia. Since then sheds have been established throughout Europe, South Asia, New Zealand and Ireland. Kent Sheds was established in 2014 with currently over 20 established Sheds in Kent offering opportunities for woodworking, gardening, conservation, creative work and boat restoration.
Men and women who join a shed sometimes like to call themselves “Shedders” representing the sense of belonging. Shed’s aim to foster community support networks and promote psychological health and well-being. Shed’s offer a sense of achievement, social interaction and a means of remaining active.
At Bechange we have the space and resources to host a shed project – we are seeking interested people who would like to attend a regular club and want to share interests and hobbies. It’s a great way to share a passion, learn new things and meet people from your community. At Bechange we have some ideas but we want to hear yours too. Below are some suggestions, but you may have lots of other ideas.
- Upcycling furniture
- Model railways
- A cookery club
- Board games
We don’t have to stick to one hobby either, we may be able to host more than one activity!
